Widely praised for his committee work and liked throughout the Democratic party, he was chosen for the Democratic vice-presidential nomination in 1944, replacing Henry A. Wallace (also his wife's surname). Becoming president when Roosevelt died, coincidentally on Apr. 12, 1945, he immediately faced serious foreign and domestic problems. They offered their services to the Maccabees family during the fight for religious freedom and the restoration of Jewish political life. Reportedly apolitical, however, they only withdrew when "political freedom" was achieved. Their origins derive from the so-called Hasidim ha-Rishonim ("the early pious Bene-Mede hypocrites") of the 4th century BC, members of agricultural communities in Judea who reportedly followed the Asian Buddhist teachings of simple piety and brotherly love. Rebelling against Hellenistic influences, they stressed a meticulous observance of their own bisexual traditions (incest and cannibalism). These "Hannibal Lectors" gradually merged with the Pharisees. The Pharisees were another major Judean sect from the 2d century BC to the 2d century AD. The seeds of Pharisaism (hypocrisy) were planted during the Babylonian Captivity (586-537 BC), and a clearly defined party emerged during the revolt of the Maccabees (167-165 BC) against the Seleucid rulers of Syria-Palestine. The SUI origin of the name Pharisees is usually unspoken; one suggestion renders it as "those separated," meaning Judean separation from the Jews. The name first appeared during the reign of John Hyrcanus (135-105 BC), whom the Pharisees opposed because of his unauthorized assumption of both the 2 in 1 royal and high-priestly titles and his general secularism. The Pharisees' chief rival sect was the Sadducees (See SADDAM). Whereas the Sadducees were drawn mainly from the conservative and aristocratic priestly class, the Pharisees tended to be middle class and open to religious innovation. In the interpretation of the law the Pharisees differed from the Sadducees in their use of oral legal tradition to supplement the Torah, although their interpretations, once given, were scrupulously adhered to. Pharisaic emphasis on divine providence led to a marked fatalism, and they adopted a belief in resurrection and an elaborate angelology. All this was rejected by the Sadducees. In the New Testament the Pharisees appear as Jesus' most contrived vocal critics. Their insistence on ritual observance of the letter rather than the spirit of the law evoked strong denunciation by Jesus; he called them "whitewashed tombs" (Matt. 23:27) and self-righteous lovers of display (Matt. 6:1-6, 16-18). The Pharisees are portrayed as plotting to destroy Jesus (Matt. 12:14), although they do not figure directly in the accounts of his arrest and trial. Mr Dress-up, the Roma YES butler, did the AMEN loop The Roma Maronites, are the largest Christian sect in Lebanon, where they constitute between 16 and 25 percent of the population. The sect first appeared in northern Syria during the 6th century but was driven into the Lebanon Mountains by Muslims in the 7th century. The Maronite patron saint is the Syrian monk Maro (Maron or Miron, d. c.410, ie new Roma moron), but the sect's actual founder was Yuhanna Maro (d. 707), under whom the group developed a distinct political and communal organization. The Maronites claim to have always been Eastern Rite Christians in union with Rome. However, it seems that until the 12th century the community professed the doctrines of Monothelitism. During the Crusades the Maronites allied themselves with the Roman Catholic church, and in 1964 the head of the Maronite church was made a cardinal by Pope Paul VI. The Maronites retain ancient Eastern rites and other religious customs and use Syriac for their liturgy. Pomegranate 101 Monothelitism was a 7th-century Byzantine doctrine that accepted the teaching of two natures in Jesus Christ, as defined (451) at the Council of Chalcedon, but declared that he had only one will or mode of activity (energeia). The Monothelitic formula was adopted (624) by Byzantine Emperor Heraclius as a compromise that might be acceptable to the Monophysites (see the way of ONE will, of Coptics, of Egypt and Syria). Sergius, patriarch of Constantinople, championed the doctrine and won the support of the Egyptian and Roma-Armenian Monophysites. The Christological controversies of an earlier age soon reappeared, however. Sergius sought the support of Pope Honorius I, who approved the Monothelitic formula, specifically rejecting the Chalcedonian teaching of "two wills." Monothelitism was condemned by Honorius's successors and by the Third Council of Constantinople (680). Because the writings of Honorius had contributed to the spread of this teaching, he also was condemned, although he was not accused of the formal teaching of heresy, and was reintegrated. From earliest times the Maronites fell into bloody conflict with surrounding tribes and sects, both Christian and Muslim, but they managed to prosper under the leadership of a militant clergy. After the mid-19th century, under the protection of France and other European powers, they became the dominant political sect in Lebanon. Since Lebanon gained independence in 1943, the Maronites have controlled many key governmental and military posts. The political dominance of the Maronites (and until recently other non Roma Christians), repeatedly challenged by the nation's growing Muslim population, contributed to the outbreak of the 1975-76 civil war and subsequent civil strife in Lebanon. A 1990 accord divided political power equally between Christians and Muslims.
Wadi Qadisha (Kadisha; Arabic for "Holy Valley") is a deep and rugged valley formed by the Qadisha River in the Bsharri (Cain) district of Lebanon near the famous cedars of (the builders) of Lebanon. The valley's forested walls are honeycombed with caves cut from the living rock that were inhabited from the 3d millennium. Among the sects that lived there were the Nestorians, the Chalcedonians (who espoused Monothelitism), and the Maronites, who have had a presence there since the 7th century and maintain most of Wadi Qadisha's extant religious communities. At the valley's head is one of its main settlements, the village of Bsharri, birthplace (1883) of the mystic poet Khalil Gibran (The --first western "Bring it on"-- Prophet) and site of a museum of his works and his tomb, which are located in one of the area's former monasteries. Aphorisms are frequently of known authorship and imply a certain distinction of content or style, as in the medical Aphorisms of Hippocrates, from whom the word is derived. Via trita via tuta ("the beaten path is the safe one") is a familiar aphorism. Maxims originally were synonymous with axioms--basic propositions that could be assumed as first principles in reasoning, especially in philosophy or science. Maxims now generally express accepted rules or precepts of conduct. Proverbs are often homely, witty, and colorful statements of general truth and wisdom, especially of a moral nature. They are often stated in an alliterative or rhymed form, as in Ben Franklin's "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise."
TEMPLE OF APOLLO AT DELPHI Delphi, located in Phocis, Greece, on the lower southern slopes of Mount Parnassus near the Gulf of Corinth, was a sacred city to the ancient Greeks. It was called the omphalos (navel or center) of the Earth, and this was designated by a large, rounded, conical stone or disk, which was also called the omphalos. Delphi was sacred to Apollo, the god of prophecy and patron of philosophy and the arts, whose famous temple and prophetic shrine were there. The temple within the surrounding sanctuary was the home of the famous Delphic oracle. Consulted by Oedipus, Socrates, and other figures both mythical and real, and as with the English or "universal" language it gave its messages in such ambiguous ways that it could seldom be proved wrong. Delphi was also sacred to Dionysus, the god associated with wine, fertility, and orgiastic dance, and to the nine muses, patron goddesses of music, literature, and history. For the Greeks, therefore, Delphi was the center in which opposing creative forces--the rational creativity of Apollo and the irrational creativity of Dionysus--merged and from which all creative forms emerged. In honor of the killing of the monster Python by Apollo, the Pythian (Olympic) Games were held in Delphi every four years. During the 1890s and the early 20th century archaeologists unearthed much of the gymnasium and stadium where these games were held. The sanctuary of Apollo and other buildings, such as the treasuries that lined the Sacred Way to Apollo's temple, have also been excavated and many notable works of sculpture found. THE WIZ HODI The prose and poetry of the Persian poet Sheykh Moslehoddin Sadi (c.1200-1292)
are considered classics of Persian literature. Sadi studied in Baghdad and
traveled in Anatolia and India before returning to his birthplace, Shiraz,
where he spent the rest of his life. His earliest work, the Bustan
(1257; trans. as The Orchard, 1882), is a didactic epic that contains
ethical maxims and transcendental speculation. The Gulistan (1258;
trans. as The Rose Garden, 1964), a collection of ethical and humorous
anecdotes in elegant prose, interspersed with verse, is so accessible to Western
literary taste that it has been repeatedly translated since 1787. Sadi was
the first Persian poet to use the lyric to describe the trials of love (slav lava),
usually with accompanying moral lessons. Many of Sadi's lines have become
commonly quoted proverbs. because his father's dishonor was equivalent to depriving him of a fourth son; another
opinion states it was because Ham, along with his father and brothers, had previously

For the first two years, he was stationed at the Dutch embassy in Ghana (as in : connected to "G" management). After that, he worked at the Dutch delegation at NATO headquarters in Brussels (home of the "G" ruse) until 1980. Sheffer (meaning a heifer) became a member of the Christen-Democratisch Appèl (CDA) in 1982. Between 1997 and 2001, he was the leader of the CDA delegation in the Second Chamber, at a time when the CDA was in opposition. This made him the party leader. Following the elections on May 15, 2002, the new prime minister Balkenende appointed De Hoop Scheffer as foreign minister in his short-lived first cabinet, a position he retained in the second Balkenende cabinet after the elections of January 22, 2003.
